When I had my first child, I never wanted to let her out of my sight. I was even hesitant to let other people hold her, and was probably a bit over protective. After carrying my baby everywhere with me for a few months, I began to experience some intense lower back pain.

I went to my doctor and he informed me that I needed to find a better way to carry my baby in order to ease the strain on my back. He suggested that I try an ergo baby carrier. After using the new carrying system for just a week, I was able to hold my baby for hours without experiencing even the slightest pain.

Though baby sling carriers have been used in other countries thoughout the world they only recently have been gaining in popularity here in the US.  When you realize how wonderful they are you’ll understand both the long history of their use and the increasing popularity.  Baby sling carriers help mothers stay on top of their lives while giving babies the attention they need.  When wearing your baby in a sling you are able to get things done while naturally talking to your baby as you go through your day and baby feels the closeness and security of being up against your chest.  What could be better than all that?

In the Dec/Jan 2010 issue of Parenting magazine there are tips about trying to stay fit for busy moms.  The good news is alot of what mom’s do already helps them burn extra calories, such as lifting your baby.  Another tip that you might not of thought of is wearing your baby in a sling baby carrier.  In Parenting they write “Hug to fit. Carriers are the answer for staying active while being close to your baby.   Plus most babies love the motion, which may even lull them to sleep.  So you can get a workout in while they nap!”

mayawrap-light-blue.jpgRing slings are popular baby slings and one can see why when you look at how comfortable and versatile they are.  You can adjust ring slings to fit even a premature baby (most ring slings can be worn with babies as little as 5 lbs.).  And many of them can continue to be used for a child up to 35-40 lbs.  They are ergonomic for the person wearing the child.  The child’s weight gets distributed across the shoulder and back of the wearer.  They give your child a safe and secure environment both at home and out and about.  Plus they are easily stored and washed.  No wonder they are so popular.

There are plenty of products on the market to carry your child on your back.  Older infants and toddlers love to be worn on a parent’s back because they can see the world from the parents view point.  The soft fabric baby carriers that wrap around the parent like the asian mei tai and baby wrap carriers like the CuddlyWrap are more comfortable, less bulky and less cumbersome than the metal-framed backpacks.

Anyone who has children knows what a struggle it can be to carry them around with you. Although we all love to bring our babies with us wherever we go, you can only travel with your baby in your arms for so long before you begin to tire and fatigue. Changing carrying positions is a great way to stay fresh and be able to carry your baby for a more prolonged period.

One of the best ways to hold your baby is with cotton baby slings. They allow you to carry your baby in a variety of safe and secure positions. The best part is that they are adjustable, so one item will comfortably fit both mom and dad.

The more confidence you have in your parenting ability, the more you can relax and enjoy your children.  The ability to reading your baby’s cues successfully helps build confidence.  When you are holding your baby close in a baby sling, such as a ring sling, wrap or pouch, you become tuned to your baby’s gestures, facial expressions, sounds, and body language. Many parents who wear their babies report that they haven’t learned to distinguish their baby’s cries – because their babies are able to communicate effectively without crying! Every time a baby is able to let you know that he or she is hungry, bored or wet without having to cry, his or her trust in you increases, learning is enhanced, and your own confidence is reinforced. This positive interaction enhances the attachment between parent and child, and makes life more enjoyable for everyone.

    Parenthood is exhausting

cuddly-wrap-grandparent-red.jpgBeing a parent of young children can be exhausting.  It’s not just the sleep-deprivation but all the lifting, carrying, and cleaning up!  There are ways to make it a little easier.  Instead of holding your baby with one arm on your hip try wearing your baby in a baby wrap carrier or baby sling.  Baby carriers like these help by distributing the baby’s weight across your shoulders and back.  It really makes a huge difference and babies really enjoy being held.

Sling baby carriers are the best baby carrying product on the market.  Easy to get on and off.  You don’t have to worry about negotiating doors and crowds.  Your baby is safe and feels secure.  No worries about strangers touching your baby.  Baby is close for comfort.  Others don’t get too close for comfort.  Your hands are free to do anything.  Slings are easy to store.  Unfortunately they are not easily found in department stores which is why many parents don’t even know about them.  Once you realize how great a sling is you’ll agree it’ a baby procuct that’s hard to live without.
