One of the oldest known forms of a baby carrier is the Chinese mei tei. This Asian baby carrier was originally simply a square piece of cloth that was outfitted with parallel straps that were twisted together to secure the child. In the 1960s a contemporary version of the mei tai was developed and popularized in Australia, and since then, there have been hundreds of variations on the carrier.
One of the most popular modern forms of the mei tai is the Maya Tie. It features the same general design but is constructed with high quality materials and is available in a variety of colors and designs. This carrier is much safer than the old-fashioned model and provides increased comfort for the parent and the child.
